ACTION 1: Attend the March for Truth on June 3

ACTION 2: Urge your Representative to vote against the so-called CHOICE act

ACTION 3: Continue to speak out against Trump’s billionaire budget

ACTION 4: Keep fighting the AHCA a.k.a Trumpcare

Marches are being held across the country and we need to keep up the pressure to demand a thorough independent investigation into the administration’s alleged ties with Russia. We covered this in detail last week, and the story continues to unfold with Jared Kushner and Jeff Sessions now being implicated.
Information on how to find a March for Truth in your area can be found here. Further resources from Indivisible on other ways of continuing to keep up the pressure on your Senators and reps can be found here.

On June 7, the House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on HR 10, the Choice Act, which will repeal many of the financial safeguards to regulate big banks that were put in place to protect American families after the financial crisis of 2008. This includes destroying the Consumer Financial Protection bureau and limiting the rights of shareholders to engage with the company. A full explanation of the act can be found here.

H.R. 10: Financial CHOICE Act of 2017: To create hope and opportunity for investors, consumers, and entrepreneurs by ending bailouts and Too Big to Fail, holding Washington and Wall Street accountable, eliminating red tape to increase access to capital and credit, and repealing the provisions of the Dodd-Frank Act that make America less prosperous, less stable, and less free, and for other purposes.

  • Attend a Town Hall/Gather a Group and Request a Meeting with your MoCs: Your reps should be in their districts this week. Remind them that their job is to address the concerns of their constituents. Indivisible’s Talking Points About the CHOICE ACT and sample Town Hall Questions are at the bottom of this document.
  • Call your Congressional Rep: Demand a NO VOTE on the Choice Act.

Script: Hi, my name is __________ and I’m a constituent calling from _____. I’m calling to ask Rep. _____ to vote against the CHOICE Act next week. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was put in place specifically to address the abuses that led to the financial crisis of 2008, and we should not be giving more power to Wall Street. They have proven time and time again that they cannot regulate themselves. Furthermore, this bill limits the rights of shareholders to engage with the companies they’re invested in.

Last week, we focused on the misguided education cuts in Trump’s proposed budget, but truly the entire document is cruel and deeply flawed. Read more about the exact spending cuts here. Ultimately, the House and Senate have the final say so we need to make sure our priorities are heard loud and clear.

  • Contact your MoCs: Indivisible has a list of key talking points here. You can pick the things that are of particular concern to you, or use the following script from 5calls.org.

The Congressional Budget Office released its score of the new version of the AHCA this week, predicting that 23 million people would lose their insurance if it were enacted. This is unacceptable. More information about stopping Trumpcare and a list of resources can be found here.
